Alabama's Governor Fob James made a dozen appointments to the Tuskegee Airmen Commission, including several local representatives. The Tuskegee Airmen Commission was created by an act of the Alabama Legislature with the mission to "establish, operate and maintain a memorial to honor the Tuskegee airmen and other related individuals." Eighteen members comprise the commission, all who are appointed by the governor under the legislation guided through by State Sen. George Clay of Tuskegee. The appointments are effective until Oct. 23, 2005 with the purpose of establishing an Airmen memorial to the 332nd Fighter Group.
